MARCH 2025 FENCEPOST
APTOS, CAPITOLA & RIO DEL MAR SIR BRANCH 104 – Website https://sirinc2.org/branch104/
“Just for the fun of it”
LUNCH DATE: 3rd TUESDAY, MARCH 18th, AT 11:30 AM
SEASCAPE GOLF COURSE MONARCH ROOM
BIG SIR MESSAGE: RICK POWERS “THE ROSTER’S CACA-DOODLE-DOO”
Gentlemen. Happy March !
Hope you have enjoyed the recent warmer, drier weather. It sure is a nice change from the damp and gray.
An update: There continues to be a lot of communication and correspondence with the State SIR Inc. involving overall Branch membership qualifications, and participation in Activity Groups. The latest, this morning, from President Carlston advises us “to just continue your practice” . . . I will keep you updated . . . The beat goes on.
“The ides of March are upon us!”
Our speaker this month will be our own Jeff Hawkins who has a fascinating presentation on meteorology and technology. Personally, I find it fascinating hearing about some of the innovations he has helped develop.
Our luncheon choices this time will be Alfredo Pasta with Shrimp, Grilled Salmon Salad or Western Veggie Salad. . . It should be yummy.
Stay well, see you all on the 18th…
To Our friends: “May the Road Rise to Meet you, May the wind be at your back.” An old Irish saying…
Rick
LUNCHEON PROGRAM – Jeff Hawkins, a satellite meteorologist and one of our SIR members, will be presenting on the topic: Satellite Remote Sensing R&D and Applications for Naval Operations
Jeff has 40 years of satellite remote sensing experience in both oceanography and meteorology using a global constellation of operational and research geostationary (GEO) and low earth orbiting (LEO) sensors. He has been involved in researching the current intensity of cyclones, the future intensity of the storms, and where the storms will be in the future by using data obtained from satellites. Satellites are ideal for helping to provide answers to these questions due to their ability to provide nearly constant and total coverage of the tropics in space and time.
Jeff has a Bachelor’s Degree and a Masters Degree from Florida State University. He currently lives in Carmel.
LUNCH ARRANGEMENTS – Meal Selections. Cost $27
We have the following three menu choices for our lunch. Please be sure to let your monthly caller know your choice for lunch to ensure you and your guest receive your request. The cost will be $27 per person.
