BIG SIR MESSAGE: RICK POWERS “THE ROSTER’S CACA-DOODLE-DOO”
This is what I learned at The State SIR Meeting In Lafayette on September 24th.
1. SIR Is no longer Sons In Retirement . . . It is now SIR Inc.
2. Branch 104 is now Chapter 104. . . Unless we opt to keep it Branch 104
3. Big SIR is now Chapter President . . . Unless we opt to keep it Big SIR. The same applies to Little SIR.
4. Women are NOT mandated to be SIR members. . . If so desired, a Branch may hold an election and vote whether or not to extend membership to women.
5. Renaming of SIR and the renaming contest are on hold.
6. SIR logo change and contest is on hold.
7. There will be a SIR “Growing Branch Membership” Zoom meeting focusing on publicity on October 18th, time, TBA.
8. There will be a SIR Leadership Training Zoom meeting for anyone interested on November 8th time, TBA.
9. It appears there is more than one avenue to become a 501 Charitable Organization . . . 501-c8 etc. To be researched.
10. Median SIR membership age is 80 years old.
11. There appears to be no minimum age requirement to be a SIR member in good standing.
On a more serious note . . . Richard and Gay Klevins suffered a home fire; 20% of their home was burned with extensive smoke and water damage throughout the rest of the structure. Most Importantly, Gay and the fur-family are fine, and temporarily in a hotel. They are managing as best as can be expected under the circumstances. Richard is asking for leads on a good extended rental home, apartment or condo. He also wants to reassure all of his friends that they are safe and well, and are grateful for all of our help.
The luncheon menu selections will be Southern Fried Chicken, Grilled Salmon Salad, or Western Veggie Salad.
Our October speaker will be Gayle Ortiz, the founder and spirit of Gayle’s Bakery, a local institution since 1978.
Regarding Branch 104 . . . As Dr. Frankenstein said. . . “Its alive” We are an envy of State SIR and keep growing . . . Keep recruiting. Guys, we are on a roll.
LUNCHEON PROGRAM: GAYLE ORTIZ
In 1978 Gayle and Joe Ortiz opened a small bakery nestled above the quaint village of Capitola. Five years later the Rosticceria, an Italian deli with a beautiful rotisserie was added. GARY OING’S SHARING GOOD THOUGHTS WEBSITE (SGT):
This month my focus is on “feeding the mind”. So, I developed another website that is focused on “food for thought” (FFT). See if any of the FFT that I share makes you think positively at — https://gk.eoing.com/fft/ . Where do YOU get the best “online food” for positive good thoughts?
In case you hadn’t noticed, the US national elections will be held soon. Some of you may have already received your mail-in ballot. For those of you who like to think about US elections, I have built a website on this topic that shows a lot of links to non-partisan online encyclopedic resources, viz Ballotpedia and Wikipedia.
Gary’s US elections info website can be found at — https://gk.eoing.com/us_elections/
For many of us, this planet is a BIG place. Do you ever wonder what is the time or the weather in some faraway place? This link will answer those questions and much more including what major historical events occurred there — https://www.timeanddate.com/
Another resource to give you interesting things to think about is TED talks. This link will take you to a list of them on a variety of topics — https://www.ted.com/talks . Personally, I like the fact that you can listen to the recorded talks and/or read the transcript of what is said.
We all have preconceived notions about topics, sometimes labeled “biases”. If you get much of your FFT from online sources or media outlets, I suggest you see what the biases of those entities might be and how factual their content is. A useful resource for determining that is — https://mediabiasfactcheck.com . My FFT website has several MBFC links to television/radio companies and newspapers.
In closing, I suggest you look at the SGT website I generated in March 2021(!!) on this topic. There you will find even more links to very good FFT stuff. Check it out at — https://gk.eoing.com/good_thoughts/z47.html
As a reminder, you can find the above links and much more at Gary’s SGT website. I encourage you to save the link to the SGT website and visit it throughout the month to help remember my suggested topic of “food for thought”.
The link to Gary’s “Sharing Good Thoughts” (SGT) website is — https://www.gk.eoing.com/good_thoughts
Let me know if you have found Internet content that you use for your “mental health”. If so, share those links with me and I can add them to my website.
Stay well and mentally happy by thinking good thoughts.
