LUNCH DATE: 3rd TUESDAY, AUGUST 20th AT 11:30 AM

SEASCAPE GOLF COURSE MONARCH ROOM

BIG SIR MESSAGE: RICK POWERS  “THE ROSTER’S CACA-DOODLE-DOO”

The sun is shining, and the birds are singing – what a beautiful summer.

We have another great speaker lined up for our meeting, Zach Friend, Santa Cruz County Supervisor from the Second district. Prepare your questions, I know I will. I think I’ll ask if Santa Cruz County is planning to follow Monterey County’s lead that Monterey County will pay 50 % of the cost of Eucalyptus tree removal on private property. He will be able to provide us with up-to-date insight on many issues we have questions about . . . Like what is the scheduled completion date for the Highway 1 improvement project. . .

If all works out to plan, we will have a second guest, Andy Danver, Vice President of Communications and Marketing from State SIR Governing Board. I’m sure he will be able to answer many questions regarding the changes to SIR.

Depending upon questions, our meeting may run longer than the normally scheduled 2 O’clock adjournment time . . . watch for Daffy Duck. He will let you know for sure when the meeting is over, then leave!

Don’t forget that SIR is having a contest to re-name itself, and also to adopt a new Logo. The contest is open to all SIR members and a $500.00 prize is set aside for the winning name; furthermore, another $500.00 is to be awarded for the winning logo. Email your entries to Jim Gragg by August 8th, his email is jegragg65@gmail.com. List the subject as Name and Logo Contest. Sketches for the new logo should be submitted in JPEG or PNG format. Enter as often as you like. They do not want the word “Retirement” used.

Our luncheon choices for the branch this month will be Chicken Castroville, or Grilled Salmon Salad, or Western Veggie Salad.  And, speaking of the branch. . .

Keep inviting investigators to our jolly band. Let’s continue to “buck the state trend” by keeping Branch 104 growing.  You guys are doing an awesome job!

See ya on the 20th

Rick,

GARY OING’S SHARING GOOD THOUGHTS WEBSITE (SGT):

Olympic Achievement & Shared Good Thoughts (SGT)

The 33rd quadrennial summer Olympic games have started but first I want to suggest some good thoughts on “achievement”.  We all should take pride in our achievements even if we are not Olympic athletes.

What motivates you to achieve goals that you set for yourself?  Check out this psychology dictionary definition — https://dictionary.apa.org/achievement-motivation  .  And here is another acronym that I had never seen – “N-Ach”.  This article helps explain its origin — https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Need_for_achievement

Now it is time to enjoy one of the best competitions for international athletes who join a team to represent their country.  The history of the origin of the Ancient Olympic Games (starting ~776 BCE) is fascinating and is well-described at this link — https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ancient_Olympic_Games

The decade starting in 2020 has been affected by COVID.  The 2010s decade had some great moments.  This 10-minute YouTube video captures some of them — https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rm7BgExxo8w

The 2024 summer Olympic Games are being held with Paris, France as the host city.  The closing ceremony is scheduled for Sunday August 11.  My favorite part of the Olympics is the closing ceremony.  At that point, the athletes are not competing against each other but typically enjoying the pride in representing their country.

Here is a video showing the closing ceremony of the winter Olympics in Beijing in 2022 from the official Olympics website — https://olympics.com/en/video/music-beijing-2022-closing-ceremony

This is a link to many more You Tube videos on the Olympics — https://www.youtube.com/c/Olympics/videos

Lastly, if you want to know more about recent and future summer Olympic games, (Los Angeles in 2028) click here — https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Summer_Olympic_Games#Recent_Games

As a reminder, you can find the above links and much more at Gary’s SGT website.  I encourage you to save the link to the SGT website and visit it throughout the month to help remember my suggested topic of “Olympic Achievement”.

The link to Gary’s “Sharing Good Thoughts” (SGT) website is — https://www.gk.eoing.com/good_thoughts

Let me know if you have found Internet content that you use for your “mental health”.  If so, share those links with me and I can add them to my website.

Stay well and mentally happy by thinking good thoughts.
