THE PAST MARCH 21st. HORSESHOE TOURNAMENT

WAS A DOUBLE ELIMATION RACE TO 15 POINTS

Where: At Lake Almaden Regional Park on Winfield Blvd.

It was played on two parallel courts with 2 sets of shoes to expedite the game.

Time:  9:00 AM to 12:00PM was the scheduled time. We started at 9:00AM and finished playing at 11:30 AM.

When: The horseshoe tournament is once a month and always played on the 3rd Thursday of the month from 9:00 AM to 12:00PM.

We had a record number of 8 players this month. We played 4 players on one court with 2 opposing partners at each end of the court and 4 players on the adjacent court with 2 opposing partners at each end of the court.

We played through the brackets until there was a final winning team.

Everyone threw their shoes from their comfortable throwing distances.

The players were Don Soderman, Steve Guyon, Pete Eppolito, Jon Wiseman, Doug Krause, Doug Rogers, Galen Gipson, and Fred Jones.

Pete Eppolito and Fred Jones dug up and manicured the throwing pits before the game.

The coffee, pastries, hooks to pickup the shoes and one set of shoes were provided by Fred Jones. Other sets of shoes that were family heir-looms were provided by Don Soderman and Steve Guyon.

The players cheered when a ringer or a leaner was thrown and a lot where thrown.

Jon Wiseman was the leading thrower with 4 ringers for the day.

Fred Jones threw the elusive double ringer for six points, also known as a six pack.

A ringer is 3 points, a leaner is 2 points and closest to the pin within a shoes width is 1 point. In the future games, #’s will be drawn to determine who the partners will be.

The fun was had with a great group of men. When the competition got tuff, the tuff got going and threw for a win. It is a skill level that gets better with time.

The undefeated winning team was Jon Wiseman and Pete Eppolito.

They played the final  game against Galen Gipson and Fred Jones.

The ending score was 15 to 10. See the score sheet.

It was on a beautiful sunny day at the lake. Spring was in the air.

Everyone had a good time and wants to play again.

The next horseshoe tournament will be on April 18th, on the 3rd Thursday of the month at the same place and time. A reminder and weather check will be announced within 10 days of  the April tournament.
