SIRS NOVEMBER 22nd BICYCLE ACTIVITY

(The ride was moved to November 21st because of expected rain on Nov 22nd)

( Because of a short notice some riders could not make the ride, due to other commitments)

Riders:   The riders were Dave Smith and Fred Jones

Time:    The ride  started at 10:00AM and ended about 1:00 PM.

Where:   The ride  started at Dave Smith’s home. It was close to the south end of Snell Ave.

Bikes:   We rode electric bikes.

Description:  Dave Smith guided us through the neighborhood back streets. We rode on a gravel levy road for 6 miles following a man made canal at the base of the mountain to Almaden Lake Park. We  rode through the park on the paved Los Alamitos Creek Trail to Harry Rd. We followed the dirt and gravel Calero Creek Trail to the back entrance of Santa Teresa Park. I saw a couple of large coyotes and a flock of wild turkeys in the park a week earlier. See pictures. We rode on some single and double track rocky trails for a short distance threw the park to Bernal Rd. On the way back to Dave’s home we followed the mountain closely to the old Bernal-Gulnac-Joice Ranch. See pictures The county rangers give tours there on the weekends. At one time the 20 acre ranch was 9,647 acres. For thousands of years the Ohlone Indians and others used the Sacred Santa Teresa spring located on the existing 20 acre property.

At the end of the ride we had snacks and beverages in Dave’s beautiful backyard backing up to the Santa Teresa Hills.

Distance:   The ride was 16.1 miles long round trip. The ride was on mostly semi level paved trails and neighborhood back streets. We took breaks and pictures along the way.
