SIR Hike, Wednesday, May 29, 10:00am, Shell Ridge Open Space

An easy, mostly level, dirt trail with approximately 350 feet of elevation gain. Very close to our own backyard on the Ygnacio Valley Road side of Shell Ridge Open Space. We’ll be hiking a loop on the Fossil Hill Loop, Indian Creek, and Briones/Mt. Diablo Regional trails. The Indian Creek trail section, in particular, is lush and green.

This loop takes us past the famous Oak Tree which served as the model for the City of Walnut Creek logo. See if you can find it!

No restrooms are available at the trailhead. Bring sunscreen, hat, hiking shoes and trekking poles, if desired.

Directions:
From Concord, drive west on Ygnacio Valley Road, past John Muir Hospital heading down the hill, and turn left onto Homestead Avenue. Take the first left onto Marshall Drive. Continue on Marshall Drive to the very end and park. Indian Valley Elementary School will be on the right.
From Walnut Creek, drive east on Ygnacio Valley Road and turn right onto Homestead Avenue, then follow the above directions.
