Our Luncheon speaker for November was Carlos Castle who was a sergeant in the
101st Airborne Division 3/327 Inf., US Army. He talked about his military service.
Carlos started his military career in February 1984 and his basic training was at Fort
Benning, Georgia, Harmony Church and Airborne school followed that. His first duty
station was Fort Polk, Louisiana in the summer of 1984, mechanized infantry.
Carlos went on his first oversea assignment in Germany (QRF) (Quick Reaction Force) from
September 1984 to October 1984. His Second assignment was in South Korea from 1986-1987
& was in the S-3 Shop, Logistics. Carlos was the NCOIC S-3 (Non-Commissioned Officer in
Charge) of Logistic supplies for the battlefield.
Carlos reenlisted for 5 years in South Korea after serving for 2 ½ years. He
then went to Fort Carson, Colorado. His Career took off quickly. He was the NBC
(Nuclear Biological Chemical Analyst on the Battlefield) NCOIC after completing NBC
school at Fort Carson. Then he went on to be the Company NBC NCOIC. After that, he was
now, Battalion NBC NCOIC for the Gas Chamber. This was a quick change to his military career.
However after 2 years at Fort Carson, he was sent back to South Korea, this time he was
at Camp Casey, 20 miles from the DMZ, this was in February of 1989-to March 1990.
Carlos went on to the 101st Airborne during the Gulf War, where he broke his neck and
separated both shoulders, just before the air war started.
