Our Luncheon speaker for August was Katherine Schwab who spoke about the Butte
Humane Society. She has been the Community Outreach and Special Events Coordinator for
the Butte Humane Society since January 2024. Her responsibilities include educating the
surrounding public on the importance of animal welfare in the community and cultivating
events to raise funds to support the operation of the animal shelter.
The Butte Humane Society is one of the oldest non-profits in Butte County as a
limited-admission shelter, BHS is a safe haven where scared eyes find comfort and
wagging tails rediscover joy. Since 1911, they haven’t just cared for animals, they
have given them a second chance at love. Together, they will create a future where every
animal finds a loving home, where empty bowls are a thing of the past, where veterinary
care is accessible, and where responsible pet ownership is the norm. The mission of
the Butte Humane Society is to save lives, find homes, and inspire compassion.
