Big SIR, Bob Johnson – January 2025
-condensed from the January bulletin-
Happy New Year! I am looking forward to another year of good fellowship and fun activities as a member of SIR and hope you are too!
I want to thank Dwight Lang for serving as our 2024 Big SIR. He did a great job of leading us through the year and set a wonderful example for me to follow this year.
Now that we are in the New Year it is time to pay our annual dues for 2025. The dues continue to be only $30 for the entire year. The dues are due as of our January meeting on the 16th and payable by our February meeting on February 20. You can use the same method that you use to pay for lunch to pay for the annual dues. Please help us keep our SIR branch strong with the resources to carry out our programs.
Our speaker at our January 16th luncheon will be our own Kim Grandfield, who will share amazing photos and interesting stories from his recent kayaking trip in Norway. Be sure to join us for this fascinating presentation and remember to bring a guest. We need to continue to recruit new members and a terrific way to start is by inviting a possible new member to a free lunch. See you at our luncheon on the 16th!
Luncheon Pricing
Pricing for our January Luncheon is still $32. Please see the January 2025 Bulletin for details on paying for the luncheon.
Yearly Branch Dues
Note: With inflation taking a bite out of our usable funds, especially those with fixed retirement income, if you find it difficult to pay the yearly dues and/or the cost of the luncheon, please see me discreetly. We have funds to help. Also, if you need a ride to the luncheon contact, via email: SIR 101 BigSir, we can have someone pick you up.

SIR (formerly referred to as “Sons In Retirement”) is a nonprofit public benefit corporation for retired men. The purpose of SIR is to provide members with a variety of activities while renewing friendships and making new friends. Having fun is our goal. Starting in 2023, a small yearly fee has been required from branch members. This provides funding for special events such as a yearly picnic and holiday dinner. The only other requirement for membership is that you need to be able to attend 5 of 10 monthly luncheons, with some exceptions. From its inception in 1958 SIR has grown to over 10,000 members. Branch 101 in Livermore has about 132 active members.
Our Activities:
Hiking, Kayaking, Dining Out, Bocce are just a few of our activities. Branch 101 has over 16 Activities. What Activities might you be interested in? See the Current Newsletter link in the drop-down menu above. We are always open to trying new activities. We’ve heard suggestions like: Scrabble, Mexican Train (dice game), or even a board game night. If you are interested in any of these or have other ideas, please see me, Dwight Lang, or 2024 Little SIR, Bob Johnson.
