Monterey – Branch 28, Monterey County

MEN ENJOYING ACTIVE RETIREMENT

Who Are We?

We are the Monterey Branch of SIR and our mission is to enhance the lives of our members through social activities and events. And to have fun in the process. Our monthly luncheons have informative speakers and our various activities are intended to provide recreation, social interaction and enjoyment for all.  Most of our members live in Monterey, Carmel, Pebble Beach, Pacific Grove or Salinas.  Anyone in Monterey County is welcome.

When and where do we meet?

We get together at the Bayonet Black Horse Golf Course clubhouse on the second Thursday of every month. Check-in begins at 11:30am. We conclude about 1:30pm after lunch, our guest speaker and our business meeting. The golf course is located at One McClure Way, Seaside (entrance is off General Jim Moore Blvd).

What Activities Do We Offer?

We currently have opportunities to bowl, to play bocce ball, and to golf.  We have an active book club, we have opportunities for wine tasting with other SIR members, chances to go on local tours of sites of interest, and we are always looking to add to our list of activities.  Some general information about our activities can be found here.  For more information on any of our activities, contact John Hetz, our Big SIR, at hetz.john@yahoo.com.

We also had a successful Family Picnic in 2023. We are hoping that this will become an annual tradition, with even more members and their families participating.  Information concerning future picnics will be provided in our Sea Otter newsletter as planning commences.

In addition, members also volunteer at local non-profit organizations in the area and at special events. If you have the time and interest we can help connect you to the organization directly, or in many cases through a branch member who is currently a volunteer. We like to help others in the community.

But there Are Some Things We Don’t Do!

We don’t raise money. We don’t have a political agenda. We don’t have a religious orientation. We don’t make our members sell cookies or candy bars to help the branch. We have no problem with organizations that do these things, it’s just that we don’t.
